What is the default KiwiSaver contribution rate?
The minimum employee contribution rate in New Zealand is 3.5% of your before-tax salary. Your employer must also contribute at least 3%. You can choose to contribute 3.5%, 4%, 6%, 8%, or 10%.
How much is NZ Super in 2026?
New Zealand Superannuation in 2026 is approximately $27,768 per year ($534/week) for a single person after tax. For a couple it is approximately $42,756 per year ($822/week).
What return rate should I use for my KiwiSaver?
Conservative funds typically return 3–4% per year. Balanced funds return around 5–6%. Growth funds return 6–8%. These are long-term averages - actual returns vary year to year.
Can I retire before 65 in New Zealand?
You can access your KiwiSaver at 65 (the current NZ Super eligibility age). You cannot access it early except in cases of significant financial hardship, serious illness, or first home purchase.
What is the government KiwiSaver contribution?
The New Zealand government contributes 50 cents for every dollar you contribute, up to a maximum of $521.43 per year. This is called the Member Tax Credit and is automatically added to your account.
